Our Mission

We, as believers and disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body here at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church and School, in response to His Commission to make disciples of all peoples and in awareness of our unique, collective gifts, clearly see the mission before us to worship – to grow – to serve.

Bethel Lutheran School offers a Christian Education for the whole child.  Students in the school find identity, purpose, and power for their lives by living in God’s grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.  The education is well rounded and provides spiritual instruction, intellectual achievement, social interaction, emotional development, physical education, and aesthetic experiences.

Message from the Principal - February 2008

We have had another wonderful Lutheran Schools Week!  The week started off with a worship service with Concordia-Peoria and Good Shepherd-Pekin at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria.  It is so nice to get together with our sister Lutheran Schools and celebrate our unity in Christian education.  The many activities included our read-a-thon for St. Jude, preschool buddies, fine arts day and, of course, special persons day.  This is a very special week in our school year and a great time was had by all in celebrating with Lutheran schools across the country.

Did you know that we have one of the sweetest teachers in the area at our school?  Mrs. Carol Stetzler was selected as one of the Journal Star’s sweetest teachers based on an essay written by one of her students, Bryan Himmel.  Out of the more than 600 entries, Bryan’s was one of the essays selected.  Because of this, Mrs. Stetzler’s class will receive a Krispy Kreme donut party.  Bryan will receive a $20 gift certificate and Mrs. Stetzler will receive a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts each month for 1 year.  Congratulations Bryan and Mrs. Stetzler!

Congratulations also need to go out to our Varsity Cheerleaders, Varsity Girl’s Basketball Team, and Varsity Boy’s Basketball Team.  All three teams competed in the Illinois Lutheran Sports Association State Tournament held in Arlington Heights the weekend of February 29, and March 1st and 2nd.  All three teams represented our church and school well.  The cheerleaders placed 6th, while the girl’s basketball team placed 8th.  The varsity boys placed 2nd in a well-played and hard-fought game against Christ Lutheran of Peoria.  Because of their high finish, the boys will be competing in the National Tournament March 28th – 30th at Valparaiso University.  The most gratifying part of the weekend, however, was the composure and good sportsmanship shown by our players and coaches.  We received many compliments on the attitude of our teams by opposing coaches and fans.

As we approach April, it amazes me how quickly the school year goes by.   With all of the different activities coming up, the end of the year will be here before we know it.  We have many big events coming up in April.  Our 8th grade class will be going to Washington DC April 6 – 11.  Achievement tests will be held April 16th – 22nd, the National Lutheran Education Association Convocation will be held April 24th – 26th and to wrap up the month, we will be getting our visit for accreditation.  Never a dull moment!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

John Jacob
