Washington DC Trip 2009

Welcome to Bethel Lutheran School, Morton, IL

                 ......with Christ himself as our chief cornerstone. Eph. 2:20

Our Mission

We, as believers and disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body here at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church and School, in response to His Commission to make disciples of all peoples and in awareness of our unique, collective gifts, clearly see the mission before us to worship – to grow – to serve.

Bethel Lutheran School offers a Christian Education for the whole child.  Students in the school find identity, purpose, and power for their lives by living in God’s grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.  The education is well rounded and provides spiritual instruction, intellectual achievement, social interaction, emotional development, physical education, and aesthetic experiences.

Message from the Principal - May 2009

Greetings;

The final countdown is on.  As we enter May, the end of the year is fast approaching.  It’s hard to believe, once again,

how fast this year has gone by.

However, just because school is winding down doesn’t mean things are slowing down.  We are ramping up our practices for our annual Spring Musical.  The title of this year’s musical is Race to Win.  The performance will be Thursday May 14th at 6:30 pm at the school.

May is also the time for our big field trips.  Many fun and exciting trips are planned.  The 5th graders are once again going to Hannibal Missouri, home of Samuel Clemens – better known as Mark Twain.  Our 7th graders are making their yearly trip to Chicago, where they stay overnight at Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois.  As usual, the 8th graders have already returned from their big field trip for the year.  They spent a week in Washington DC from March 29 – April 3.  It was a great trip and a great deal was learned about our countries government and history. These are just a few of the many wonderful educational field trips that our done by our teachers.

Another big May event is our service project to We Care.  Every Wednesday, 4 eighth graders go to We Care at Freedom Hall to help serve meals and play games with the folks there.  This is a great way to get interaction between different generations and help to teach our students to serve others.

As we look ahead to the coming year, we’ve got some interesting hurdles to clear.  The good news is that we currently have 213 students registered for our elementary school next year, which is an all-time high.  We also have several students who will be returning who have not yet registered.  With these students taken in to account our enrollment could be pushing 220.  The dilemma is that in certain classes we will be forced to turn away several students, including children of church member families.  While this is never a pleasant thing, this gives testimony to what a wonderful job our teachers are doing in making Bethel Lutheran School a place that people want their children to be.

Finally, when we thanked those who helped judge our Young Author’s competition this year.  Jane Bailey’s name was inadvertently left off.  We apologize for this omission and sincerely thank Jane for the time and effort she put in to helping us with this.

God’s Peace,

John R. Jacob

Principal
